What do you consider Historic Home preservation? I'm currently watching a "so-called Historic Home" being converted to a Bank. Originally it was an OLD INN, I think, then of late its been a Restrautant for a number of years. So along comes a Buyer who wants to develop the property and abutting neighbors for a Drugstore and Bank and who knows what else will come, BUT that's OK.
My question is this: they took the Old Building and removed all the proches and entry ways and a back section of the building and left the originally building CIRCA 1800, then proceeded to gut the entire inside to a shell and put new roof, added pillars and new windows. Then built a new addition off the back of the building. SO the only thing left is the original brick structure -SHELL. I know I should have taken pictures BEFORE and AFTER but I didn't. Its not finished yet and I'm sure it will be First Class when its done. Should they reproduce the interior to Circa 1800 or is it going to be modern?
Is this really Historic Preservation, I don't think so. But maybe that's what zoning required.
Let me be clear, I'm not opposed to the building and developing of this site or any other.
Just a question for those knowledgable about Historic Preseravtion?
