Christmas in July!
It's a beautiful day here in Connecticut - for July! Admittedly, I am more of an Autumn/Winter girl, but today is lovely. But why not revisit Christmas?
One year, I designed a small hallway in the Burr Homestead for the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival. An annual Showhouse event, the Festival is a fund-raiser for a wide assortment of area charities. I am proud to have been associated with it for many years.
Mixing many vintage and antique items such as prints, paintings, ivory-handled flatware, Christmas decorations, white silk shawls, long white leather opera gloves, a demitasse set, and a silver coffee service, lent an eclectic air. I added several hand-painted items such as wine glasses, linen damask napkins, and a wooden screen. Additionally, I made potted "wing chairs", pine cone-and-silver-bead garlands, and decoupaged Gothic angels. Everything was for sale to benefit that year's charity.
I made the screen from two bifold doors, and painted them with faux architectural elements.

Can you find the "wing chair"?

The tapers boast "candle bracelets".

Here you can see the damask napkins, embellished with washable fabric paint, as well as the wooden Gothic angels.
This was one of my favorite spaces. The screen did not sell, so I took it apart and used one door for my pantry! How happy am I?
Wishing you a Merry Christmas this July!
