Connecticut Home Staging Tips: Staging Children's Bedrooms

No matter where the house is, its style, or its price, there are a few items that are found in almost every child's bedroom:

  • Posters
  • Trophies and awards
  • Their NAMES spelled out in large letters
  • Clutter
  • Too few lamps

And, finally:

  • WALL DECALS

Home Staging - before

First, it's important to remove anything that could identify the child to strangers, such as their photos, NAMES, school records, trophies, etc. Next, remove anything that may be objectionable to potential buyers, such as that Boston Red Sox quilt (sorry!), or the Vampire poster. After containing the clutter, adding more lighting, and cleaning, most of these charming bedrooms are good to go.

What about the wall decals? Best to take them down now. Whether they're cute and charming or oversized and menacing (see above), many buyers don't understand that they are, indeed, very easy to remove. Don't divert buyers' attention from a spacious, charming room with lots of light. Take the decals down now!

(The queen-sized bed was replaced with a twin, and one of the two dressers was removed. All the clutter, personal items, and decals were also taken out. The room still retains a lot of charm, but is now ready for buyers.).
