Black Rock CT is a Historic Seaport Village in Fairfield County

Since Colonial times, Black Rock has maintained it's own identity apart from the surrounding municipalities. Black Rock was part of Fairfield in the 1800's and then became part of Bridgeport in the late 1800's. It began as a bustling seaport with shipbuilders and deep water wharfs. Black Rock no longer has clipper ships doing trade with China, but it has a an active coastal lifestyle with two yacht clubs and a marina as well as a public boat launch.

It feels like a village because it is small in size and it is easy to get to know other members of the community. We have informal gathering places such as Harborview Market, where you can play a game of chess with a friend in front of a fire or play the piano or just enjoy the artwork by local artists on the wall. You can also enjoy a homemade hot meal each day or a cappaccino. There is also Port Coffeehouse, which serves Fair Trade coffee and gluten-free desserts or Home on the Range with its delicious blueberry pancakes. For more formal gatherings, there is the Black Rock Library and the Burroughs Community Center.

When we gather around the Christmas tree at Brewster Street for the tree trimming and carol singing or enjoy the Black Rock Day Parade in the early summer, it feels like an old-fashioned village from Colonial times. Living in Black Rock, Connecticut is living a village life, but the village is part of a vibrant, urban area only an hour and ten minutes away from Manhattan via the new Fairfield Metro train station.
