How to fix your credit in Fairfield CT: Part 2 of a 4 part series

How to fix your credit in Fairfield CT: Part 2 of a 4 part series

In part 1 I covered obtaining a copy of your credit report.

Now that you have your credit report, you need to go through it item by item and make a list of all the negative (know as deragatory) items contained in the report. Once you have your list of the negative items you are ready to begin your credit repair.

At this point you need to make a choice. Are you going to attempt to do the credit repair yourself or will you hire a professional. This could be a topic for a whole other post so I will leave that issue alone.

If you decide to go it alone, you'll want to write to the three credit bureaus at these addresses:

Experian Trans Union Consumer Relations Equifax

P.O. Box 2002 P.O. Box 1000 P.O. Box 740241

Allen, TX 75013-0036 Chester, PA 19022 Atlanta, GA 30374-0241

You need to include your name, address, social security number, date of birth, and phone number. You should also include a copy of something proving your social security number (such as your SS card or a tax form) and also something proving your address (like a drivers license or a utility bill). You'll want to keep your statements about the accounts short and to the point (like this isn't mine or this wasn't late, etc.). Next, and this is important, you will want to mail your letter by certified mail (add emphasis here).

In addition to writing the 3 credit bureaus you will want to validate any collection accounts that might appear on your report. You can reference this post to do so.

It is import to not that you should never ever ever do your dispute online through the credit bureaus online dispute system (unless you would like to waste your time - LOL) always do it by certified mail.

Come back in two days for part 3 of this series, and find out what to do with the results of your updates that come back from the 3 credit bureaus.
