Windsor was settled in 1635, as a trading post where Europeans would trade with the native Podunk Indians.  Primarily named Dorchester, the names was changed in 1637 to Windsor, named after Windsor England.  There was much more Windsor real estate in the  17th century, covering the towns of Windsor Locks, South Windsor, East Windsor, Bloomfield and Ellington.  Connecticut's first highway also opened up here, connecting Windsor and Hartford.  In fact, settlers who came to this town, were among the first to arrive from Europe on these shores.  Many Massachusetts settlers moved to Connecticut to avoid higher population densities.
