"Unemployment is at a 27 year high! Banks are failing all throughout our country! Home values are declining and consumer confidence has hit rock bottom!"
These are many of the stories you will hear on the nightly news. And while many of the above statements are true, if you are in the market to buy or sell real estate it is absolutely essential that you stay away from the media madness and focus on your specific needs. As a real estate professional, one of my main responsibilities is to present my clients with all their options (adhering to fiduciary as well as my own moral standards) so they can clearly see and understand their unique big picture. Despite the negative cloud that has been cast over the real estate market, there is plenty of opportunity for people to realize their real estate goals. Buyers can now purchase their dream home for less money, while sellers who wisely let their equity accrue can cash in on large capital gains. It's even a great time for investors to purchase a property or two (I'm buying my 1st investment property this October) and increase their monthly cash flow.
To ensure my clients achieve their real estate goals, everyday I commit myself to perfecting my craft, delivering unrivaled customer service and upholding a high standard of personal and professional integrity. As a new school agent built on old school principles of success (persistence, professionalism, market knowledge, empathy etc.), I wanted to tell people my daily story in a creative and captivating way. This goal lead me to contact one of my dearest friends Shaun B. Taylor, who happens to be an amazing writer. Shaun is a middle school educator, inspirational speaker, writer and author of the forthcoming books "Hear Child Speak: 21 poems for the 21st century child" and 10 Commandments for the 21st Century Parent. He also worked with me for several years as a licensed real estate professional. Shaun's personal real estate experience and writing talent give him a one of a kind perspective into the daily workings of a real estate agent. After a brief teleconference and only a few days, Shaun created an authentic and meticulously detailed poem called "ActiveAgent". From 6am to 10pm, "ActiveAgent" breaks down my typical day, hour by hour and shows readers exactly what I do to meet the needs of my clients all while maintaining balance throughout the rest of my life. Here's my story; "ActiveAgent"...
6 AM - Daybreak, thankful just to be awake
I decide, that no matter what, today will be great
7AM - Gymtime, cardio-abs-incline
I can't stop until I do an extra rep this time
8AM - Laserlike focus in the office
Just got a mongofax, they approved our final offer
9-11AM - I call my sphere
Appointment later so I pull the comps from last year (last month in this crazy market :-)
MID-DAY - "Chat & Chew," multi-task and munch
In our profession, time is precious, even during lunch
1 O'CLOCK - Final walk through before closing
Caveat emptor to protect my new owners
... Take a couple minutes to call my better half Jess; because hearing her voice always brings down my stress!
2PM - Settlement, another deal finished
Write and drop my "thank you" notes off within minutes
3PM - Conference call about to get started
Our topic of the day is "THRIVING in this current market!"
4PM - Do some pop-byes on old clients
And learn my lawyer's secretary is interested in buying
5PM - GAMETIME, LISTING PRESENTATION!...
My goal is to add value to the seller's situation
6PM - Successful listing appointment is complete
The open house is Sunday, broker's open is next week
7 on the dot - Strictly volunteer time
I help my mentee David write a new exciting rhyme
8PM - I'm starving, dinner's scheduled down town
I meet up with my friends and we enjoy a couple rounds
9PM - Read, meditate and then pray
Time to wind down so I can close out my day
10PM - Bedtime, my day finally ends
Can't wait till 6 am so I can do it all again!
