Who Stole the Key???

A couple of weekends ago I was out showing property to a motivated buyer. I 1st touched base with this client about a year and a half ago. He moved to Rockville from Pittsburgh and wanted to get acquainted with the area before buying. I helped him get a rental and the past several months have given him ample time to get familiar with the city.

A month ago he contacted me to let me know that he's been pre-approved and ready to go home shopping. We had our home buying counseling session and hit the streets. He quickly located a neighborhood that he loved and we investigated every 2 bedroom condo on the market. We noticed that there was a bank owned property that was priced about 25K below the competition. From the remarks on the MLS it seemed to be in decent condition. My client was very excited about the property so we went to view the listing. As we opened the lockbox, we noticed that the key was missing. I quickly called the agent and she informed us that someone must have taken the key...hmmmm. What to do? The agent apologized for our inconvenience and promised to have it returned within a few days. No sweat.

A few days later I contacted the agent to make sure the key was there. Sure enough it was so my client and I went back to the property. I entered the combo and voila the key was missing again!! I again contacted the agent and she believed that someone took the key again. My client and I are obviously frustrated as we leave the neighborhood. The next morning I'm checking my updates on the MLS and wouldn't you know the listing is under contract. It's unfortunate that my client wasn't able to view the property and potentially make an offer. All I want to know is who stole the key???
