ANC 6D01 Community News

Here are the highlights from tonight’s meeting:

-      Corcoran Gallery: Due to newly-presented and significant modifications, ANC 6D voted to oppose the project at the Randall School and urged the Zoning Commission to table consideration for 30 days.
-       Nassif Building (former Department of Transportation): The owners reported that demolition has begun on the site and will continue until early 2008.  Pedestrian traffic on 7th Street will remain closed until possibly the fall of 2009.  Access to the L’Enfant Plaza metro will be closed from October 2007 to July 2008.  Passengers must use the HUD or 7th & Maryland entrances.  The owners also noted that the finished project will be the largest office building in the United States to achieve LEED Silver certification.
-       Waterfront Mall: The developers reported progress in reducing the width of the buildings along M Street.  This will serve to break up the façade and provide more ample viewing corridors for residents in Tiber Island and Carrollsburg Place.  ANC 6D voted to approve the modification and will support the application at the September 17th Zoning Commission hearing.
-       Southwest Shuttle Bug: ANC 6D voted to approve the new shuttle service for residents and metro passengers inconvenienced by the Waterfront Mall closure.  Discussion centered on the proposed routes, and ANC 6D agreed to return to the subject at a later date.
-       Community Outreach Committee: I need to nominate a member from my Single Member District to sit on the Community Outreach Committee.  This committee is principally responsible for evaluating community grants.  Please contact me if you are interested.

I thank Councilmember Tommy Wells for attending our meeting tonight.  As always, these highlights serve only to inform residents of my single-member district.  They are not reflective of the entire meeting nor the concerns of ANC 6D as a whole.

Respectfully,
Max Skolnik
Commissioner & Treasurer, ANC 6D01
