Waterfront Mall Demolition Photos

The demolition of the Waterfront Mall in Southwest DC is well underway.

On November 1, 2007, the wrecking ball first swung at a ceremonial wrecking party:

The first piece dropped moments later:

By December 13th, the entire building shown in the above two pictures is now gone and hauled away:

The Northwest building is down partially demolished as well (see above).

The developer's plans for the new Waterfront brings several benefits to the southwest neighborhood:

  • 2.5 million square feet of office, residential and retail
  • 4th Street SW to reopen creating a new Main Street
  • Enhanced retail amenities including an improved grocery store
  • New public spaces
  • Thriving day/evening population - residential, office, retail
  • Focus on design excellence with sustainable building design and operation components
  • Complements city’s broader vision for the Anacostia waterfront redevelopment

A photo gallery chronicling the demolition and rebuilding of Waterfront Mall is hosted on www.myDCagent.com
