Home Staging Tips in Boca Raton- Your Buyers aren’t just looking at your house, they’re smelling it as well! Some Do’s and Don’ts!
Buyers can be distracted by many things when they’re viewing your
house....too many “things”, pets, items in need of repair, and many more things. And one distraction hits the Buyer as soon as they walk in the door.... odors.
They can be from your beloved pets, last nights fried fish, smoke, mold, or just from having a closed up house all winter. If you want your Buyers to want to linger in your house.. to begin to visualize themselves living in it, you need to address these odors.
DON’T
1. Don’t even think about trying to cover it up! The days of candles in every room, baking cookies in the oven and simmering cloves and cinnamon sticks on the stove are of the last century. Lit candles are a fire hazard. And, seriously, do you want to bake cookies every time your house is being shown?
2. Don’t ignore it! If you have pets, chances are your house will have some pet odor. Thinking that Buyers either won’t notice or won’t care goes along with the thinking that your Buyer will be able to get past the worn and stained carpeting in your house.
DO
1. Do bring in your friend, neighbor, relative or Realtor and ask them to be brutally honest. Ask them if your house has an odor.
2. Do find the source of your odors and address it. Is there a mold issue? Could the spices you use in cooking (that you have become accustomed to) be lingering in the air? How about the window coverings or your upholstered furniture?
3. Do try to give your house a “clean/fresh” smell. That may mean opening your windows (weather permitting) and letting that fresh air in. Baking soda, vinegar and water make excellent cleaning products.
Tip- pour baking soda down your drain and follow it with vinegar. Then, rinse with hot water.
4. Do get help. Sometimes you have to know when to call in the big guns. There are companies who specialize in pet urine odors. Get on the Internet and search for companies in your area that specialize in home odors.
