National Proofreading Day - March 8 2012..Celebrate the Day!

There really is something to celebrate every day and today is National writing and proofingProofreading Day! What better place to celebrate proofreading than here at Active Rain. I read an excellent post today by the Sheila Newton Team on grammar and 15 common mistakes that so many of us make. Oh.. yes... I still have to think twice to determine if it should be “effect” or “affect.”

National Proofreading Day “promotes mistake-free writing to enhance a professional and personal image.” Proofreading our work has become even more difficult with the increased usage of “Text speak”..... “ur” for “your” just as an example. Spell check can correct our spelling but for now we have to rely on re-reading to check for grammatical errors.

In the past many of us wrote the occasional business letter, filled out forms and prepared reports, but with the increasing use of Social Media and blogging in particular, more and more of us find that writing has become an integral part of our business day.

First impressions do count... whether you are selling your home or selling your business image. And as we stress when staging your home for sale, you don’t want your buyers/clients distracted to the point that they miss seeing the total product. Grammatical and typing mistakes and spelling errors could taint how your client perceives you.

Celebrate National Proofreading Day by taking an extra minute or 2 to re-read your posts.

(I say this from experience having read some of my posts and comments that were written long after I should have removed my contacts and switched to my glasses or long after I should have called it a night and started over in the morning. )
