A Man's Character Is Best Tested When Nobody Is Looking

Last week I showed a home in the Aldea Reserve community in Davenport, FL to a client and they fell in love with it. They wanted to make an offer right away and they wanted to make sure they secured it. We made a good offer and I was fairly certain the seller would be happy when they saw it. I got in touch with the listing agent and then sent it over. The sellers were out of town and she asked if they could have a few extra days before they responded. Sure thing, no problem, I said, just let me know.

I hadn't heard anything for 3 or 4 days so I called and asked for an update. She informed me that sometime in the last couple days the house had been left unsecured and things had gone missing. The police were investigating and the home was going to be off the market temporarily. It is apparently pretty obvious that someone with access to the lockbox code left the house open after showing it.

Everyone who showed the house had been contacted and nobody will own up to it. Someone knows how this happened and they aren't telling. Sometimes doing the right thing can be hard. There are times in life when you have to bite the bullet. We all make mistakes and none of us is perfect. I find it sad that this situation came about in the first place. But not being honest about what happened adds insult to injury.

Your integrity is everything in life. If you make a mistake...fess up to it and confront the situation head on and deal with it. If you don't, everybody loses. Most of all YOU. Your character is something you have to see in the mirror every day for the rest of your life.
