On Saturday, September 8th the residents of Pelican Bay, a gated "golf community" here in Daytona had their quiet lifestyle interrupted for a couple hours by the thunder of around 50 bikers and their machines.
They were riding up and down Pelican Bay Drive and in and out of the Pelican Bay Country Club, side by side on their shinning machines, but no one told the residents why their otherwise quiet lifestyle was being so noisily interrupted! Yes, Steve and I were among them.

We were filming a commercial for our Annual Bikes & Blues With Mickey Jones Ride & our 3rd Annual Mickey Jones Celebrity Golf Classic which is going to be played at the Pelican Bay Golf Course this year.

While we were filming near the golf cart house I noticed a couple residents peeking over their fence watching the excitement so I went over to let them in our secret.
They were real excited about what we were doing and wished they had known about this before hand, they would have loved to have been part of our mini production!

Our Bikes and Blues committee is made up of golfers and bikers that meet once a month with the common goal of raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis TN. Our events are held once a year in April, to date we've raised over $62,000 for St. Jude. We would love to raise that much in one weekend this year.
Our commercial will be aired on local channels here in Daytona as well as Youtube, and where ever else we can play it to get more people to attend our ride and play in our golf classic.
Special thanks to the Palm Coast Chapt. of the Red Knights, ABATE, The Iron Horse gang, The Pelican Bay Golf Club and Tim Biggs from PBS, the man with the camera for making this possible!

Daytona has always been known as the biker's paradise!!!
I've had some of the best conversations in bars with Bikers, though I kind of fear riding them. Good local post Lysa! Feel free to email me the commercial when you can, I'd love to check it out.
Barbara Jo, Hopefully it will remain so!
Jason, I get into some good talks with some too, Steve loves it when I can go head to head with some on certain subjects. When I get the commericial you will know! Um, you fear riding bikes I hope!
Lysa-WOW, I swear I miss so much of the good happenings but fortunately I got a good reporter in the office. Must have been interesting especially riding in Pelican Bay!
Midori, You've been busy on the weekends, so I try to bring them to you :) Yeah it was a trip riding in a group through the gates of PB, the guard knew we were coming and just waved us through as a group, otherwise traffic would have been backed onto to Beville Road. She enjoyed it too.
Lysa, What a wonderful event and cause. St. Jude is one place I always donate to, I think it is a very worthy charity to help children and their parents. And it looks like you had a beautiful day! I haven't been on a bike in a lot of years, wow---have a ride for me!
Is that you on the bike?
Love the photo of the kids, Lysa. They look adorable.
Hi Lysa,
This certainly sounds and looks like a wonderful event and the cause is definitely a worthy one. I hope it was successful. Great post.
Lysa, What a wonderful endeavour to work towards....
I'm so proud of you and Steve for being a part of this. Best of luck in raising at least that much and more in one weekend !
wonderful photos...it looks like a good time was had by all.
Jo
Carole, We ride every weekend (weather permitting or not). St. Jude is very worthwhile and I love this committee!
Aziz, Nope, I'm behind my camera on this one. When I get the finished commericial you'll see us on our Shovelhead :)
Anna, That was my favorite shot from the whole day!
Cynthia, The actual events are scheduled for April 5th and 6th 2008, we're getting geared up for raising the sponsorship money now :) Each year we raise just a little more money and have so much fun doing it!
Jo, Thank you! It was fun until the lightning flashed! Then the residents couldn't tell us apart from the thunder in the sky as we all left together. Riding in the rain is one thing.. thunderstorms are a bit hairy.
