Hawaiian Inn - one of the most successful older condominium-hotels in Daytona Beach area is in the news.
The property was built in 1965, and time takes its toll. Some mechanical problems caused it to be closed for some time in 2007, and though the management was running it at very high occupancy, they still came a bit short of the previous year. I think they had the best occupancy on the beach in 2007.
The problem with collapsing coquina stone forced them to close their operations for several days in January, and the Management company decided to pull the plug.
New management company is already in place. It may take them some time to set everything straight. Meanwhile, looks like the property may require some updating, and assessments could be levied. To keep us with rising costs, maintenance fee per unit went up to $500 a month, making it one of the highest maintenance fees in local condo-hotels.
