Another day, another death here in Central Florida..... Here's to you, Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson. You've now joined Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings and Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansell in having a recent unnecessary pedestrian death on your watch.

May God bless and keep the family of young Shinnique Comer as they deal with her loss this holiday weekend- and may God bless and young Shivon Walker and her family as they cope with the tragedy as well.

2 more young lives lost....Let's enforce our pedestrian traffic laws and save some lives, Central Florida.

Cops: Pedestrian on cell phone hit, killed by minivan

12:37 a.m. EST, December 22, 2011

A woman talking on a cell phone was hit and killed Wednesday as she stepped into the path of a minivan in Deltona, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

Shinnique Comer, 26, of Deltona was at Howland and Courtland boulevards when she was hit by the westbound van about 6:20 p.m., investigators said. Witnesses said she was on the phone when she was hit.

Comer was taken to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, where she was pronounced dead about 7 p.m.

The driver of the van, Shivon Walker, 28, of Deltona was not hurt.

According to her Facebook profile, Comer was a nurse at a nursing home and graduated from Daytona State College.
