Do you like Manatees? I know they are my sister's favorite animal. She has Manatees on everything from jewelry to socks ..... holy cow. Living in Southwest Florida, you would think that we see Manatees quite often, but in actuality, I've only seen them once in the wild. They are very graceful animals. Because of their size, about the size of an adult land cow, they do not move very quickly in the water. During the winter months the Manatees will accumulate in the back waters were the water temperatures are much warmer. They especially like being around the outflow areas by Power Plants to bath in the un-naturally warmer water from the electric plants. 
In Fort Myers, Florida on Palm Beach Blvd is a county park called "Manatee Park". This is a wonderful place to see Manatees, unfortunately...I haven't had the pleasure to experience it. Pilar & I have been to the park twice, but both times we were not able to see any Manatees..... bummer. The first time we went another spectator was there with her Grandchildren and commented that the week before you could see the lovely creatures everywhere.... Just our luck, should have been here LAST week.... Ohwell. We went to the park again on Friday (12-28-07) and missed seeing any Manatees, but the park was packed full of Holiday Vacationers. Many of these visitors were renting Kayaks to paddle around the backwaters.... I'm sure most of them will have an excellent time, provided they don't flip over the Kayak...Hehehehe It is believed that the Manatee is what inspired sailors a few hundred years ago to come up with stories about Mermaids. Next time you are in Fort Myers, stop by the Manatee Park .... it's FREE !!!!

I felt like I was at Sea World the other day up in Boca Grand~a group of porpoises was playing close to the shore and WOW what a show they put on for the crowds!
