A house, of course, looks nice, more inviting with lush landscaping, but part of the pleasure in a new home may also be to plan some of your own gardens and then watch it grow. When we purchased our home on Fort Myers Beach years ago, we had extensive landscaping in front, but not so in the back. My husband's idea was was buy fully grown tees and bushes for our back border. But, I wanted smaller bushes and trees and flowers. My husband said that these would take forever to grow (he didn't quite realize the power of the rainy season), and and I told him that he was right, that it would take awhile for the landscaping to fill out, but watching it grow year after year would be exciting. My husband doesn't write poems often, but he wrote one to me after our "gardening" conversation.
I have so many dreams
for us
One of them is to live on an island
and build this garden
we make with our own hands
and you said to be patient
and let the earth follow its course
and I can smile
as it is in front of my eyes
when we get younger . . . .
