Fort Myers Beach and Estero island Diary

If you are looking for a more Jimmy Buffet life style of slacking Fort Myers Beach is the place. The island also known as Estero Island is not trendy Captiva or Sanibel island, nor does it want to be.

When my wife and I first moved from Old Town Naples, we were looking for an island which had more moderate prices and had more down to earth quality and kept its heritage with its older cottages, its fishing with its largest commercial port in the area located along the narrow Matanza Pass and its formidable Calusa Indian history.

This Jimmy Buffet life style area filled with shops and countless restaurants and bars applies only to the downtown of Fort Myers Beach or Town Square.

The rest of the island does not follow the same image and is filled with renovated old fashioned cottages and pilling homes, quiet homes along canals or along the pristine Estero Bay and of course manicured condominiums.Following is a link of a few condos and single homes on the island. We often go and mix with the crowd in Town Square or at The Lighthouse, which is a fun motel with a colorful tiky bar and pool where you can watch sports or just smooze about and take a dip which having one of these froo froo drinks. There is also that dreamy confectionary where the aroma from fresh made chocolate and fudge pours into the street of Fort Myers Beach Time Square.Its called Kiwin's and its worth the taste.Kilwin's Icp Llc. In moderation if you can! The ice creams are also just out of this world.

Then we can look for some calm along the 7 mile beach. It feels relaxing to get away from it all and just watch the waves and just smile and dream away with sand between your toes. maybe we will catch a dolphin frolicking about.
