Winter Day Bird Watching in Florida
When it gets really cold up North, we too, can feel the cold creeping into Florida. Today is one of those sunny but chilly days that have you bundled up at least as far as Floridians are concerned or that have you just stay indoors eating hot chili and the heat or fire place on.

When it comes to birds however, it's a different story. As I was looking out my window in Hernando Beach for something interesting to see, I noticed this pair of Hooded Merganser ducks happily swimming and diving in the saltwater canal behind the house. We typically have quite a few of Mallards in Hernando Beach all year round but these ducks looked quite different with their puffy crests and the male's white patches.

Of course, I had to grab the camera and at least try to catch them on film... can we still say even with our digital cameras nowadays? Anyway, Hooded Mergansers are migrating ducks that spend their winter with us here in Florida giving us the opportunity for a winter day bird watching.

These ducks were diving and swimming in quite a fast pace, they were quite a distance away so I had zoom way out... Hooded Mergansers - another breed of Florida snow bird!
