I have to admit that I am not the text friendly type, especially after seeing a morbid image on the Internet of what happened to a person's body after being involved in a vehicle accident with an 18-wheeler; an accident apparently due to text messaging.
But I am also weary about text messaging while driving, especially people who have taken ‘calling' off a personal level. To me, text messaging is impersonal and if you don't have the time to call me then don't text me at all. It also depends on the circumstances, sometimes a text message is better than a phone call.
But not according to real estate technology and companies such as Cell Trust, a Secure Mobile Information Management company whose headquarters are located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cell Trust incorporates mobile tools for real estate while taking user experience to the next level.
"According to the Cellular Industry Cellular Association (CTIA), it is estimated that 18.7 billion text
messages were sent in December of 2006 alone - the median age of text messager's is 38 years old - the same for the Internet homebuyer". Cell Trust
That is a lot of texting! But has texting come too far? Whatever happened to traditional phone calls? How do homebuyers feel about professional standards from real estate practitioners using text messages to communicate with them? How do real estate professionals feel about using text friendly features on their cell phones to homebuyers?
It is a text friendly world and it is Mind Over Matter: If you Don't Mind, then it Doesn't Matter. After building a relationship of trust with your buyers, (or sellers), the option is really up to the relationship of trust that you have built from the very beginning.
There is also a company in New Zealand who is taking phone messaging technology to the top. Property Text is a cost effective automated text messaging system designed specifically for real estate professionals and private home sellers, which works through Short Message Service (SMS). In the meantime, whatever your decisions are and how you feel about text messaging and its latest technology, please drive and arrive safe.
