Motives?

In law cases, motive is a very important consideration to determine why a crime was done and what the penalty will be. I have recently been considering the aspect of motive in real estate sales. I know that most of us are motivated by financial gain in our work, but I am wondering if there can be a higher motivation than the dollar. What would our days be like if we determined that we wanted to make someone happy, or leave someone's life a little bit brighter for having met us, rather than looking just for a sale. Believe me, I can use the income in these very difficult times as much as anyone else, but what is my motive. This may sound like a philosophical fantasy, but I am reexaminingg my motives and feel that I have come up short. I think my motive can be different by trying to be a blessing and still enjoy the income of a sale. Why am I bothering about motives? Maybe I am just getting old.
