Join in the fun this weekend at the pirate-themed “Shiver Me Timbers 5K and Fun Walk” in Melbourne Beach, FL!
The run/walk is hosted by Brevard County Parks and Recreation, and will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the South Beach Community Center at 500 Old Florida Trail in Melbourne Beach.
For the inaugural “Shiver Me Timbers 5K and Fun Walk”, participants are invited to dress in pirate gear as they run and walk around the race course, which encompasses the grounds of the South Beach Community Center in Melbourne Beach. The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities; the goal of the “Shiver Me Timbers 5K and Fun Walk” is for participants to just enjoy themselves while getting a little bit of exercise, dressed as a pirate, of course! Arrrggghhh, Matey!
The “Shiver Me Timbers 5K and Fun Walk” is the second event in Brevard County Parks and Recreation’s new “Run Brevard: ReCreate Your Life” series. The series kicked off in December with the Reindeer Dash 5K in Viera, and will include 5 additional races (including Shiver Me Timbers) throughout Brevard County Parks through June 2012. After “Shiver Me Timbers”, the series will continue with the ”Forever Hearts 5K and Walk” Saturday, Feb. 18 at Rodes Park Community Center in West Melbourne; the “5K at the Bay and Fun Walk” Saturday, March 10 at Barefoot Bay in Micco; the “Space Coast Sports Festival 5K Race and Fun Walk” Saturday, May 26 at Wickham Park in Melbourne and the “Hurricane Hustle 5K & Windy Walk” Saturday, June 16 at the Ted Whitlock Community Center in Palm Bay.
The inaugural “Shiver Me Timbers 5K and Fun Walk” will start at 8am on Saturday, January 14th at the South Beach Community Center in Melbourne Beach. Entry fees are $18 for runners and $12 for walkers, or $14 for runners and $11 for walkers if you pre-register, with t-shirts guaranteed to the first 100 entrants.
