Watching a space launch in person is a fantastic experience - the crowds, the excitement, the cheering, the anticipation, the countdown, and the sense of accomplishment. Add to this everything that it takes to get to this point. How can you help but be inspired?

You're right!  IT is so amazing.  Can you believe man can invent something this amazing?

Allen,

It is more than amazing. It's almost unimaginable. :)

Steve

I have had that pleasure a couple of times myself while living in Orlando. It takes your breath away to see where we've come.

Charles,

It does do that. We were as close as physically allowed - 3½ miles from the pad. :)

Steve

I can only imagine how exciting that must have been! Wow~!

So much goes into getting these things off the ground and then the awesome experience of watching it happen!  Thank you for posting.

Liz,

It was a great experience - more fun than I even imagined - but over so quickly. :)

Steve

Judi,

Thanks for the comments. It was a great experience, and I'm certainly glad I got to do it. :)

Steve, I was in Melbourne a few years back and was fortunate to see a shuttle launch. The roar of the engines and the orange flame was an amazing site.

Steve, I have to make it down to Cape Canaveral before the space shuttle quits flying. That is such a great scene...

Steve - Great photos.  I snapped a few from my backyard - about 10 miles away is not nearly as nice.

Wow! An experience I have not had yet, you have inspired me to add it to the list of "things to do"!

Michael,

Isn't that just so incredible? Both the roar and the brightness were more than I expected. :)

Steve

Paul,

Better hurry. I think there might only be one or two more. This is the last Hubble mission, and the tests for the new one start later this year. :)

Steve

Gary,

SOme of the pictures don't come out so well because of the tremendous heat and sound waves. We were at the Banana River reviewing site 3½ miles from the pad. :)

Steve

Cheryl,

That would be a worthy addition. It is great to experience. :)

Steve

Steve, great shots, it amazes me on how many professionals world wide work on these projects, have that one moment of time when all hold their breathe that "lift off" return safely home

Have a great and successful week!

Lynn,

Exactly right. I feel the same way. Thanks for the comments. :)

Steve - Spectacular ! I never tire of looking at photos of this. Having witnessed first hand the earth moving launch, I have fond memories. Thanks

Steve - Awesome photos, thanks for sharing. What kind of equipment did you use to capture these from 3 1/2 miles out?

Mike

Claude,

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Glad you liked the pictures. :)

Steve

Mike,

I was using a 70-300 mm zoom on my Nikon. The distance sounds farther than it actually seems. :)

Great photos!  I used to live in Florida, and looking at these photos made me miss the early morning launches with my kids when they were little.

Thanks for the memories!

Sandra,

We used to watch them from the front yard when the weather was clear enough to allow it, but it's nothing like being there. :)
