Stone Crab season runs from Oct 15th to May 15th. Stone crabs are found no other place than Florida. The crabs are caught in traps, hauled in and one claw is removed and the stone crab goes back into the water. In two or three years, they regenerate a new claw. Talk about a delicious renewable resource!
Most Saturdays, I go directly to the fishermen at the farmer's market in Olde Naples. The stone crabs are already cooked, cracked and ready to eat. Just dip them into traditional mustard sauce or butter. MMMMMM. This is the way I spend my Halloween! No tricks, Just treats!
