Panama City Florida needs a Dog Park...

Some background...

We relocated from California to Panama City several years ago after owning a vacation home. We loved coming here for vacation and decided Panama City was where we wanted to be. We left our jobs in California, packed our bags, bought a new home and started a new business (Real Estate).

One thing I miss terribly though is having a dog park in our neighborhood. Duchess

In California, there were many free dog parks in many communities and I loved taking our dogs to one close to our home. It was a great opportunity to not only meet new people, but also to keep our dogs social and friendly. And they loved it!

I've only been able to find one dog park locally and it charges a fee for each dog. I would think that an area as picturesque and rural as Panama City would have something similar to what we had in California.

Jessie and I have two dogs, both heinz 57 breeds (mixed breeds) and both fun and playful. Duchess, the larger dog is a Rotty mix and Sheila the Sheltie we think is full sheltie but we're not sure.

SheilaSheila found us one day while we were setting up for an open house. I was placing a sign on a street corner and she came running up to me wagging her tail and ready to play. I went door to door in the neighborhood trying to find her owner with no luck. We took her home, bathed her (she was covered in fleas) and took her to the vet. We contacted the local ASPCA, placed an ad in the paper and waited. After several weeks, no one claimed her so she became ours.

Duchess we found in California. We had gone to the local shelter (we get our pets from the shelter whenever possible) and visited with a few dogs we thought were interesting and needed a home.

It was quite by accident we found Duchess...

We were just leaving, and I turned around and saw here sad face staring at me in the cage (I almost started to cry). I mentioned to Jessie, "Let's look at this one." He took one look at her and said "She's part Rottweiler, you sure?". I said "Yes", and when I want something badly he rarely disagrees.

So, we asked for some time with her and went out into the yard. The first thing she did was walk over to Jessie, sit down and placed her head in his lap! He looked at me and said "That's enough for me!". We took her home and she turned out to be the most loving (needy, she thinks she's a lap dog. All 80 pounds of her!) friendly dog, and she an Sheila get along famously.

So I want a Dog park that I can bring my dogs to, socialize them with other dogs and meet new friends. I also want it to be free and not have to pay to let my dogs enjoy themselves, meet new doggie friends and play doggie games.

Am I asking too much? I'm going to edit this post later and place a few pictures of my buddies, Duchess and Sheila..
