Good Bye my Friend... Thank You for the Memories

Growing up in Miami was a great place to live and going to watch the Dolphins in the Orange Bowl was a tradition for me. Now years later Joe Robbie moved the Dolphins to Dolphin Stadium (through Private Funds) and yesterday (November 10, 2007) we say goodbye to the once dominant Miami Hurricanes as they played their last game in that stadium.

For anyone who was lucky enough to go to the Orange Bowl and watch a game this stadium was in my opinion one of the best fan friendly stadiums. When you where watching a game in the stadium you had a way of becoming part of the game. In today's world of multi-billion dollar stadiums they lack that feeling of being part of the game as the Orange Bowl did.

I have been very fortunate in my life to travel to many countries and always amazes me that 75 years is nothing for a building or a stadium in those countries but I guess Miami must move forward and forget about their tradition. The Orange Bowl represents to me the history of Miami.

In recent years the City of Miami has really let the stadium go to where I believe the Hurricanes had to no choice but to move. How sad is this. Do they not have a sense of pride or history? For people who are from Miami originally will know the answer to that question.

So in closing how fitting was the Hurricanes last game in the Orange Bowl to lose 48-0. So congratulations to the city of Miami for getting what you wanted I can only assume Vizcaya can be next after all I know that would be a great place for condo's.

Orange Bowl, Thank you for all the memories.

I was sorry to hear of it. I have been there for a few games myself.

Keith & Robin, It was agreat place to watch a game. In recent years they just let the place go and get run down to where it was just nasty.  Thanks for your comment

So sad when traditions die. U.M put a big maize halo around the Stadium a few years back at the cost of millions of dollars. The fans went nuts, and the AD is no longer here and the halo is gone. I like traditions but we don't use Tiger Stadium anymore, too much to renovate and Comerica Park is beautiful.

Missy, I understand about the times and traditions however I do believe this was part of a plan for the move.  If you don't keep up a building and spend money and oh by the way this property would be a great place for a baseball stadium..(hint hint). I do believe that the team should at least be somewhat near the stadium where they play.

Matt......   part of the blame is on the city for not updating the stadium. Then again, I don't have the lease in front of me. I just read about this in an article as of yesterday. I know they will be playing at the Dolphin's stadium next year. Do you know if there are any plans for a new stadium?

I do agree with Missy... but hey, it's a time to rebuild and start new traditions and memories. I never did get a chance to watch a game at that stadium though....

Mat,

Never got to watch a game there...but passed by it a few times...originally there was a chance the Marlins were talking about refurbishing it and playing there but I guess they changed their minds.

Matt, quick go get some souvenirs for us! Sorry about the royal butt kicking too..  geeze did the team forget to show up?

Matt,

This is sad to hear when a get football icon will no longer be with us.  It is very unfortunate that our current society does not take pride in tradition.  They would rather trade it for comfort and air conditioning.  At least that is what they did in Arizona with the Fiesta Bowl.

Jeff, Being from Miami I am quite sure the politicians had this in place to make sure it will be where the Marlins will play with a new stadium built.  This way they look good when the Hurricanes leave.

Neal, From my understanding they are going to knock it down and rebuilt a new one on that site

Lysa, LOL...How sad was that

Gary, I totally agree how sad is that?...

Matt, Very sad to hear about the orange bowl and even sadder if they demolish Vizcaya. It has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Matt, In 1980 our daughter's high school band competed in the Orange Bowl - it rained like hell and we ran to a supermarket to buy trash bags - we slit the ends and made ponchos - we had just spent $75,000 for new uniformas, Karen

Mitchell,They are not getting rid of Vizcaya.  It was just a point where I am upset with the corruption that takes place in that city

Karen, I am sorry to hear about your daughter's uniforms.  It is as most stadiums are an Open air stadium and weather does play arole

Matt,

I also grew up watching games at the Orange Bowl! Hey, where did you grow up? What Schools did you go  to?

Tom Weiss

Tom, I grew up in Pinecrest and went to Palmetto

how sad - how very sad - never had the opportunity to go - but sure watched a lot of games on tv from there - did I say how sad?

Thesa, Yes your right it is very sad. Thanks for your comment.:-)

That is sad Matt!  A piece of Miami now becoming a piece of history.  Wish you cold've seen it LIVE...one more time!

Susie, You and me both:-) Oh well I guess they call this progress

Matthew- NO, not Vizcaya!  My kids and I spend a few days in the Orange bowl for the shooting of a movie with Dan Marino in it, but now I can not for the life of me remember the name of that movie! Katerina

Katerina, Vizcaya is not going anywhere at least for now.  I am just upset with the city of Miami.  It was a great place to watch football:-)
