I know what you're thinking....and you're right!!!

I'd like to say tat every dog has it's day. Today my wife and daughter convinced me to go stop by and visit an animal rescue center nearby. Two days ago we were over at the animal shelter and left without anything other than a receipt for all the dog food we donated. Well today I have to say that we are now the proud owners of a new addition to the family.

Please meet Roxy....she's about 6-7 months old according to her foster parents. She's very friendly and gentle and loves my daughter. Maybe now she'll take some responsibility and let me rest! I just went through 17yrs of wonderful love but it was tough on me because of the commitment. It seems that this girl doesn't warm up to men as easy as women but I think we'll become closer as the days go by and she learns who's hand will be feeding her most of the time.

Please meet Roxy!

How Precious Neal!  She's a lucky, lucky girl!  Congrats on your new baby and yes, I'm sure she'll warm up to you--after all, aren't dogs MAN'S best friend?!

Debe in Charlotte

Debe,

Now I'm a slave for another 17 yrs...after I just got back my freedom!

Hi Neal, Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Thanks Mary...I know I'm a gluten for punishment!

OMG he is soooo cute. We actually went yesterday to the Orange County Animal services and picked up a great 8 month old kitten.

Hi Neal I'm really happy for you and your family..and you opted for a girl! :)  She's cute congrats!!!!

Hi Neal~ I figured you would give in eventually and get another "best friend."  You know you really weren't a slave- you loved every minute of your last dog.  I think you are going to be very happy with your new relationship!  Best of luck to you and your new little Roxy!

Heather,

She is....good luck with the kitten.

Midori,

Yes but she is the bitch of the family now...no wonder she loves my daughter...maybe someone else can clean up all the crap around here....I've done it for 17 yrs!

Vickie,

I did give in but I hope it works out...I'm still having a tough time but we shall see. I'm glad my daughter and wife are into it....but next week they go to NY so all bets are off:)

Neal, I am so happy for you!!!!  Roxy looks like a real doll!  Congratulations.  This is the best thing for all of you!  If I lived closer, I'd dog sit for you when you went on vacation!  xxoo I really am thrilled!!

Neal, You needed a dog and you needed one bad. This is a very good thing. This will be one spoiled dog I'm sure. Congrats on the new addition to your family.

Neal I am thrilled for you!  Maybe Roxy knows you are still thinking about your other buddy back in the back of your mind.  They are smart like that.  I hope you can welcome her in your heart as much as she wants to be welcomed and deserves to be.  You make such a great pet owner, any pet is lucky to have you and Roxy will reward you ten fold over the years.

Congratulations on your new puppy!  You will have so much fun!

Yes Susan...I gave in...I love girls so I am now out numbered even more now.

BB,

I know...you told me but I will now have three bitches girls in the house!!

Nannette,

Yes I am still thinking of Roscoe...she had another name but my daughter and wife thought Roxy was a good way to have closure and remember the male version.

Shelley,

I hope to have many years of fun.

Neal-  After reading your post about buying the dog food to donate, I knew it wouldn't be long until you were a proud papa again.

Our first dog was a genius, but his successor quickly wormed his way into our hearts.  They both lived to ripe old ages.  After the second one, my husband said he couldn't go through losing another.  So after more than thirty years with a dog, we've now gone almost a decade without one.  Enjoy the next 17 years.  Congratulations

Neal congratulations on the new addition to the family.  I must say the new member does look a lot like you :)

Neal, Congratulations, Roxy is a doll!  I have been at the shelters myself this week and so far have come home empty handed...maybe I'll get lucky too :)

AWWWWW...  she's so cute.  Looks like she could be a distant cousin to my Neisa....

Neisa

OHHHHHH Roxy is one darned cute puppy!   Neal, congratulations to you and your family.   You're right - I'm sure Roxy will warm up to you with the same affection as she has for your daughter.  Trust can build slowly in animals (just like with humans)

Neal, congratulations!! That's one lucky pooch-

Oh Neal, I am so happy for you and your family. I know it was time. I can't wait to read about some of her antics from you. Of course she will not replace your other dog, they can't be replaced, but your heart will open and grow bigger. I know I have 5 kids, 4 dogs and a kitten.

Roxy is very cute. Love the fact that her tail was moving in the photo.  Happy tails to you....

Neal.... Roxy is cute... I know about some dogs, but what kind is Roxy?  In any case, hey Roxy, welcome to the Bloom family.  ;o)

Roxy is getting a little more adapted to her new home...the only thing we know is she is some sort of terrier mix...we think maybe a Stafford or Welsh mix from pictures we saw but we can't be sure...it's a bit weired for me because she doesn't go to the bathroom in the house much when I was so used to taking out a dog every hour on the hour for the last yr so it is taking some getting used to ...she actually slept on our bed last night but I'm still not sure how warmed up to me she'll be...I'm so used to a male dog...very weired right now and I still have mixed emotions.

Looks almost like a touch of wired haired terrier which have similar personalities as Jacks.  Too cute!  Vitto is Mike's.  Even though I feed him and take him to the park and do more stuff with him, he still likes Mike more, go figure!

Congratulations on your new puppy!  You will have so much fun!  Thanks for saving a life! :)

Hi Neal- As I was reading the comments and seeing that you are adjusting to the differences of Roxy and Roscoe, I thought this would be a great journal of her merging into the family.  Yes, she's different, and I think Nannette's comment made a lot of sense....she knows your heart is for another.  I think that you will end up winning her over, or vice versa once the other girls go to NY for a couple days.  Yep then she'll have time just with you, and I think that will be it :)  She is a little cutie :)

What a cutie!  The dog too:)  I'm so glad you broke down and got a dog Neal!  Hope you had a wonderful New Year.

Checking in little brother on my little girl Roxy!

Hi Neal!  Saw your new post and thought I'd ask how Roxy is doing but, that wasn't the post to ask that question on!  So, how's it going?  Has she warmed up to you?

Have a great weekend...

I knew it was only a matter of time once I read you were dropping off food. Gosh, she is cute. Give her time.

Hey Neal - imagine, you've only had her for a few days and you and Roxie already look like each other!!  How'd that happen!?!??!!?   ;-)

Seriously, I knew you'd get another dog soon, and this one's a cutie, too.

Ann

Congratulations Neal with Roxy. It is time. Good job. More unconditional bundle of love BACK in your life. You and Roxy are best buds! Even if it is another woman in the house : ) We've had several female dogs. They are fine.

Roxy appears to be pretty healthy and vibrant so far. We plan to take her to our vet this week just to make sure. She still has issues with males....including me but she is going to puppy training for 6 weeks so hopefully she'll change her tune.

Neal:  Roxy is so beautiful!  you guys are going to have a lot of fun with her.  Congratulations on the new addition to the family

Neal-Roxy is a cool looking dog, I hope you have at least 17 good years with Roxy!

Really cute and really lucky dog. Its super that you support the animal shelters and adopt from them.  The dogs that I've adopted have all been great family members. Bet Roxy has you wrapped around her little paw already.  Enjoy.
