| Ponce Inlet FL Photos of Historical Landmarks. By Lisa Hill, "THE SMART CHOICE!" |

Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I enjoy writing Localism posts, and I love taking photos. So I was thrilled to find out there was a new Localism contest being run by some fantastic groups here on Active Rain. This contest allows me to focus on two of my favorite pastimes.
There are five Active Rain groups working together to coordinate this contest. And being that I was already a member of three of these groups, I knew I wanted to participate. But I was left with a big dilemma. The subject of this contest is "Landmarks". And with our MANY fantastic landmarks, how in the world could I decide what to feature in a blog
post!?
After much deliberating, I finally decided to focus on the city of Ponce Inlet. Let me walk you through the beauty of Ponce Inlet and it's many offerings.
Boasting a 194 step circular staircase, the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is the 2nd tallest lighthouse in the U.S. and is open to the public. Yes, I have climbed every one of those steps and believe me, it's a workout!
But as you walk the area surrounding the Ponce Inlet lighthouse, you get to enjoy the area's exquisite natural beauty and unique sights. On the day I took these photos, I first walked around the lighthouse and Inlet Harbor Marina, then parked my car near the Marine Science Center and walked the enchanting pathways through the marshes, nature
trails, sand dunes, past the sea oats and pavilions, down to the beach, and all the way to the end of the jetty.
What made this relaxing afternoon so unique was the fact that the sun was beginning to set (I love sunsets), and a storm was just starting to roll in. The photos turned out very unique as the sky transitioned to sunset and slow rolling storm clouds. You can see the transition in the sky as the storm clouds were beginning to arrive, in the photo at the top left, of the sea oats and Ponce Inlet jetty.
Next, in the photo below the sea oats and jetty, you'll find an enchanted walkway that leads through the marshes, all the way down to the beach, which brings me to the photo below the lighthouse, as the walkway continues near the beach.
As I walked further and ventured out onto the jetty, I watched some fishermen for a while, and some birds begging for the leftovers, then I turned around and was astounded by the sight of the sun peaking through a slow rolling storm. I also hadn't realized how far I'd walked from the lighthouse! If you look closely at the third photo on the left, on the right side, you can barely see a tiny little lighthouse.
Last but not least, for your visual enjoyment, a few more fun photos from my Sunday afternoon near the Ponce Inlet lighthouse and Marine Science Center =)
