Getting Your Home "Dressed To Sell" in Venice Florida...Part Three..."Moon-scape or Land-scape?" Well, we are making good progress, aren't we! In Part One, we cleaned up the walls and concrete. We took care of the Roof and Yard Clutter in Part Two. Now we are ready to "Dress" the Yard and Windows a bit before helping with the Inside in later Parts Four and above!
We have all seen pictures of the Moon, and as spectacular as they are, they do not do justice to Getting Your Home "Dressed To Sell" in Venice Florida, do they? Have you seen homes that look like NASA did the landscape design? Yes, we all have, particularly on the sides of properties. What a shame, for a few hundred dollars, plus a few pounds of that good old sweat labor and VOILA!
The subject home below is a real nice one inside, but it did little to slow the customer down as they approached on bike or in car, before a little landscaping Make-Over took place. Check out the new plantings in front of the concrete railing at entry. They were purchased for about $100, planted in about 2 hours after a 2-hour renovation and mulched in Pine Bark Nuggets for about $25! Not bad, eh! Does the "duplicate" image with the mildew-enriched concrete walkway bother you? It should after you read Part One ("Grime 101") of this "Dressing" Series. I know that you get the point, and pardon me, you Real Estate Agents, for jumping on you, but I suspect that you have listed situations like that. Will you have an alternate plan before doing it again? I hope so. And, you sellers will dig up some of that "sweat Labor" and the relatively few bucks required to boost your property's appeal and value measurably, won't you!
The bottom two pictures show how you can intersperse new shrubs with some of the older (recovering) ones to improve appeal at a reduced cost. Plant life is marvelous for the brightness that they bring into our lives. Use shrubs of varying shapes and textures to enrich that appeal. Almost all of us like variety in all categories, so why should shrubbery be plain, uninteresting and even boring when there are hundreds of choices at most nurseries. Try to resist putting hedge shrubbery along the front walls, or maybe along any wall. Hedges are great to build privacy out back or perhaps along the sides, but they do little to enhance a wall. Wouldn't it be a travesty to have planted a hedging variety in front of the railing of the subject home? Look how nice the Grass-like Texture of the 5 Blueberry Flax Lilies in the rear enhance the balusters of the railing (Pictures 3 and 4) The 3 Ixora satisfy our need for color among the greenish companions in the bed. The 3 Foxtail Asparagus Ferns in front will stay low and add their special texture to the planting. On the front, right are some inexpensive Society Garlic that will soon burst forth with lavender-colored flowers and add yet a 4th texture to the display.
Isn't it fun Getting Your Home "Dressed To Sell" in Venice Florida, or anywhere else that you call home, with our friends from the plant world. Oh, Yes, they are our friends, for don't forget where that Oxygen-Oxygen-Oxygen comes from. What a deal, we send plants carbon dioxide (bad breath and all) and they toss in water, absorb sunlight and provide us SUGAR. In the process, they spin off Oxygen, which we inhale without even a small thank you! Enough, this isn't a refresher course in biochemistry.
OK, before you go inside, it is time to get out the squeegee, white vinegar, newspapers, rags, a 5-foot ladder and head to the Window Washing Department for instruction! You are not "Dressed" if your windows are not washed, and without streaks! Windows are one of the 1st things that women on the inside. Men head to the refrigerator! Take care of the exterior side of the windows now, rest up for 2 days, then read Part Four of my "Dressing" Series..."The Visual From The Foyer"
