St. Augustine is a Great Place to Live

St. Augustine is a Great Place to Live

I know, most people believe that where they live is a wonderful place to live, but St. Augustine is known to many as a great place to visit. It is our nation's oldest city and most Floridians visit St. Augustine in the summer. All Florida school children visit St. Augustine as part of their Florida history class.

But, somewhere the story is not getting out on what a wonderful place St. Augustine is to live. We have the no state income tax benefits of the state of Florida without some of the headaches other better known cities in Florida have---one season, traffic, over-crowding, hurricanes, high insurance rates, high rises, congested beaches, etc.

Life is slower in St. Augustine and I like it like that! We know our neighbors and members in the community. St. Augustine has a small town feel, but with so much culture, history, events, great independent restaurants, schools and health care. Here are some of the things I think make St. Augustine and St. Johns County a great place to live:

•· St. Johns County is the #1 school district in the state of Florida

•· Multiple seasons

•· Historic lack of hurricanes

•· Fabulous Health Care

•· An active artists' colony with many art galleries and museums and a wonderful St. Johns Cultural Council

•· Flagler College - a top ranked college

•· 42 Miles of beaches, plus the St. Johns River, and theIntracoastal Waterway --- tons of recreational activities.

•· Activities every weekend for visitors and residents to enjoy

•· Lower property tax rate than neighboring Jacksonville (Duval County); lowest sales tax rate in Florida

•· Minimal traffic

•· Access to Jacksonvillefor Jacksonville Symphony, Jaguars, Jacksonville Suns, Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, etc.

•· EMMA Concert Series - quality music & dance performances at modest prices

•· St. Augustine Amphitheater - top acts performing in one of the best outdoor venues in the U.S.

•· Flagler Forum on Government & Public Policy - top speakers presenting insights to the community
