How Can I Reduce My Florida Progress Energy Power Bill?

How Can I Reduce My Florida Progress Energy Power Bill?

One of my customers asked me how they can reduce their Florida Progress Energy bill. There are numerous ways.

How Can I Reduce My Florida Progress Power Bill? For example Progress Energy offers their Save the Watt program which gives great ideas to reduce your power bill.

Another option is their Energy Wise program which offers monthly credits on your energy bill that could save you up to $147 annually.

A third option is being aware of the non-peak and peak hours which can save you lots of money, This is detailed at their website:

Notice their peak versus non-peak rates first:

Residential Service – TOU (RST-1)

(Time of Use. Closed to new customers as of 2/10/10.)

Customer Charge. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $16.19 per month*

Energy Charge
On-Peak. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 15.105¢ per kWh
Off-Peak . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.491¢ per kWh

Fuel Charge
On-Peak. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.237¢ per kWh
Off-Peak.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.083¢ per kWh

Notice that the off-peak charge is much less than their peak rates.

It can be a huge financial advantage to do some chores that use power during off-peak hours.

What are their non-peak hours?

The Peak Periods expressed in terms of prevailing clock time shall be, but are not limited to these as follows:

(1) For the calendar months of November through March, All Days: 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and
6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

(2) For the calendar months of April through October, All Days: 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Therefore from November through March you may be able to lower your power bill by washing your laundry, use your dishwasher, and/or take hot showers during NON-PEAK hours which are 11:01 a.m. to 5:59 p.m. and 10:01 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.

This adds up over time.

From April through October peak hours are from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Therefore during this time you may be able to lower your power bill by washing your laundry, using your dishwasher, and/or taking hot showers from 10:01 p.m. to 12:59 p.m.

This can also add up over time.
