Come Fly With Me!

This weekend, on Saturday, February 5, chart your flight plan to the Key West International Airport Open House. This will not be an air show or a “fly in” – although there may be space at Island City Flying Service or the Marathon airport (call ahead to arrange).

If you are an airplane buff, check out the 1944 B-25H World War II bomber – the very last one still flying. There will be free plane rides for the kids (not in the bomber!), beer, soft drinks, and great food, from hamburgers to pulled pork bbq. And it’s pet friendly, too!

Mobile Mountain – the largest aviation themed inflatable play area in the US – will add fun to the tarmac for the kids while you explore the planes and exhibits!

There will be a wide variety of displays, including:

  • Life Met

  • Civil Air Patrol

  • Embry University

  • Key West Sea Plan

  • NASA/Kennedy Space Center

  • National Weather Service

  • Home Depot workshop for the kids

  • Plus booths with survival gear, wooden aircraft models, and aviation military collectibles

  • Emergency Transportation

  • Alternative medicine booths

US1 Radio 104.1 will be broadcasting live. You’ll want to sign up for the free raffle drawings that will be held every 15 minutes. And the prizes are fabulous, including:

  • Two round-trip tickets – Air Tran

  • 1-hour simulator mission in Orlando – worth a cool $1,400

  • Delta is giving away two 5,000 mile Sky Mile cards

  • 12 passes for local boat tours, featuring sunset cruises and snorkeling

  • Key West Sea Plane – one hour flight worth $600

  • Various other gift certificates ranging from $20 - $100

  • Free subscriptions to aviation magazines

  • Free memberships to aviation organizations

The Key West International Airport hasn’t hosted an Open House in over 20 years, but they sure pulled out all the stops for this one! Take time to explore the new terminal and general aviation ramp. Climb aboard exhibits, and learn about local aviation. Hours are 9am-4pm. Call Neal Carbaugh at (305) 879-9306 for more information.
