Here is some information about Hurricane Season, 2011 and the Fabulous Florida Keys. June 1st is the beginning of Hurricane season.
First things first. If you are an owner of property in the Florida Keys, take the time right now to video tape/photograph everything in the home. This makes an excellent reference should you have an insurance claim, AND will let you sleep better at night.
Now, don't make the mistake of keeping it in the house. It won't do you any good if your "record" is wiped out by the same storm that gets the property! If it is a vvideo, you can upload it to YouTube and password protect it. You should also burn a copy and place is in a safe place that is NOT on the property or in the area unless it is in a saftey deposit box.
Start saving containers for water. Plastic containers that held Snapple, Juice, water etc. are perfect for filling with water and freezing in the event of a storm. The frozen water will keep things cold and the thawed ice will provide water for drinking and cooking.
You probably already have it, but locate your duct tape, batteries and flashlights now. Make sure the batteries are still good.
More to follow as the season progresses!
