Hurricane Season, 2011 and the Fabulous Florida Keys - Evacuation Zones

Local officials never call for an evacuation in the Fabulous Florida Keys lightly. It is an inconvenience for residents and visitors alike and can also be very costly.

When they do call for an evacuation, it is done in zones.

Zone one is Mile Marker 0 to MM 6 and includes all of Key West

Zone 2 is Mile Marker 6-MM 40

Zone 3 is Mile Marker 40-63

Zone 4 is Mile Marker 63 to the three way stop at CR 905 A in Islamorada

Zone 5 is CR 905A to the Mainland

There is a method to the madness. First to be evacuated are the tourists, then high profile vehicles such as RV's and boats on trailers, then special needs residents and hospital patients and lastly, the general population.

Know your zone, know your category and leave when told.
