Color is a great way to express your personal taste and your personality especially as it relates to the interior of your home. Anyone who has ever looked at paint at Home Depot will tell you sometimes the selection of colors can seem overwhelming. Here are a few simple tips to consider when you're trying to find that perfect color. First off, lighter shades tend to make a room look larger. If you're looking to repaint a space that doesn't get a lot of natural light, a paler shade may be the answer. You can add an additional punch by making the wall(s) with the window a darker shade of your original selection. Rooms with higher ceilings can also successfully be painted a darker color because the additional height will tend to make the color seem lighter. Dark, rich colors have become very popular in recent years. If you're afraid of painting the entire room a dark color, start out with an accent wall. That will help you see the color throughout the room and in certain cases a single dark wall may be enough to accomplish the look that you're striving for. Another interesting trend is woodwork and ceilings being painted a lighter version of your new color instead of the traditional white. Lastly, trust your instincts. If you like the color on the paint swatch, chances are you'll love the color on your walls. It's easy to talk yourself out of your original selection. That's the great thing about paint, it's relatively inexpensive and can very easily be changed.
