Disability - Are You Prepared for the Unexpected?
No one ever wants to think about a worst case scenario happening to them. Recently I was placed in an awkward situation when I was involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier this month. Unfortunately it was a hit and run accident to add insult to my injuries and the other driver was never apprehended.
I was sitting at a stop sign leaving a Publix supermarket when suddenly a vehicle coming down the road lost control of their vehicle and hit the driver's side of my car wiping out both doors and rendering them inoperable.
There were all sorts of things running through my mind including "Oh my god have I been seriously injured." I was lucky a small muscle strain in my back. So two weeks of rest later and a couple bottles of medication and I'm good to go.
This brought something to mind though... What would happen if I couldn't work? Luckily I have short term disability insurance that will pay my bills for a period of time and long term that would kick in after six months of short term disability.
But this is something to think about... What would you do if you couldn't work? Do you have protection for you and your family if the unthinkable was to happen to you?
You can get as much insurance as you want based on your occupation and risk level.
Stay safe everyone.

I am glad you are ok Scott. You are right, we should all be prepaired for this.
In my opinion you should look at what type of insurance you are getting. I just went through all of this with an agent trying to sell me life insurance. I was dazzled about the monthly and at the end the returns. It did not make very good choice for me to go forward. I will leave my money in the bank.
You are so right, my 40 year old athletic friend, just has a stroke....hard to believe, but it turned her life around, in an instant..
It is a frightening prospect. My husband and I are both Realtors so of course we live by commissiion. We worry. Although I don't have disability insurance my husband does plus we save for a rainy days. Of course you know we like to see the sun shine.
