Monthly at our office we hold a RE forum to learn about what is going on in our community. At this month's meeting we had a St Lucie County commissioner speak to us as to why we should Vote NO to the amendment to reduce RE taxes. This amendment is on the ballot for new Tuesday the 29th. His opinion is that it will hurt services we expect to be provided; fire fighters, police officers, jails, court houses, etc... He spoke very proudly of all the projects he has approved and accomplishments he has made while in office. He also mentioned that the state mandates certain costs be paid by the counties and cities.
In St Lucie county the population has soared giving a much larger tax base. Property values have more than doubled and even tripled in some cases, there is an even bigger tax base. We ask where does the money go and why has spending gone up twice as fast as the increased tax income? Spending has gotten out of hand.
Maybe it's time for the politicians to have a reality check. It seems to me that if we have to tighten our budgets to meet income levels and we do adjust or we fail. Now the counties, cities, and states should do the same. No more spending without it being properly budgeted and approved by those who carry the burden to pay.
So...VOTE YES TO THE PROPERTY TAX AMENDMENT...TUESDAY, JANUARY 29TH.
