Well today is the final day for those who are on the fence to decide whether they are for or against Amendment One, the Property Tax Reform that would give Floridians a much needed property tax relief. The majority of those who I have spoken to are definitely for the amendment. A few tell us it is giving us too little. They would rather wait until a better solution is put on the ballot. But would there be another chance? If we say no to this amendment will the legislature be inclined to try again? In my opinion I don't think that they would.
For those who are not familiar with the amendment it would double the current homestead exemption with few limitations, allow sellers of homesteaded properties to take their current Save Our Homes benefits to a new home, give a limited cap to non-homesteaded properties, and allow businesses to exempt up to $25,000 of intangible taxes. It is a beginning, not the end, as politicians have promised to make it an even more solid benefit when they meet again. But only if the initial amendment is passed.
So please if you are on the fence VOTE YES on Amendment One.
