A little south of the main Port Charlotte Town Center Mall, with all the brand name restaurants, there is an excellent Mexican Food Restaurant called LaEsperanza. It was started in Fort Myers, then expanded into Punta Gorda. Then they expanded into Port Charlotte. After Hurricane Charlie severely damaged the Punta Gorda restaurant, they enlarged the Port Charlotte restaurant, and closed the Punta Gorda one. It is located in the Charlotte Square shopping plaza at the corner of Forrest Nelson Blvd and US 41. 2150 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte. Do a Google search of the restaurant, you will find many reviews mirror my liking of the restaurant. I have been visiting either the Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte Restaurants for twelve to fourteen years (I can't remember exactly how long!) for Mexican food, as they are by far the best. I've tried others in Punta Gorda, Venice, Fort Myers, and many other locations.
But I ALWAYS keep coming back to this restaurant for the best tasting Mexican food in the Southwest Florida area! If you want a fancy restaurant, it might not be the best place to go, usually service is good, although it is not always their strong point, but I've probably had troubles with only about two or three meals in the twelve to fourteen years. I've had more issues with the major chains, than I have this restaurant. In the winter season, especially on the weekend, you will have to wait as long as an hour, even with their expanded restaurant, as they are that popular! Check it out, you will not be disappointed!
Located at 2150 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL

I have a little Mexican place right down the street that looks just like this one...the food is awesome.
The restaurant that was in Punta Gorda was really made up - like fake cracks in the wall, 'exposed' parts of the wall, etc, which was really cool looking. This restaurant is just decorated in Mexican decorations. But the food has always been great! I keep trying ohter Mexican Restaurants, and ALWAYS compare it to this one! Have a great weekend Laura G!
I graduated college in New Mexico (yikes, back in the 70's) so alot of my favorite restaurants had the real cracks! Back then it seemed that some people just opened a restaurant in their living room. But boy was the food great!
Go Aggies...New Mexico State, Las Cruces, NM!!
Ron,
I love mexican food, but Florida is a little far from me!
I am back from Cal.
