FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE - PUNTA GORDA, FL. 33950 - MARINA AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS HONOR

Once again Punta Gorda,Fl. shines. Fisherman's Village Yacht Basin was named "Marina of the Year" by Marina Dock Age Magazine recently at the International Marina and Boatyard Conference in Fort Lauderdale. "This is the big one" according to Jim Branch, dockmaster. This is an impressive award because this magazine is the only one in America specifically for the marina industry. Dock Age has thousands of subscribers and works closely with the American Marina Association. One award is handed out for best large marina and one for best small marina. Fisherman's Village Yacht Basin received the best small marina award with it's 145 slips. The award for best large marina went to Ko Olina Marina in Kapolei, Hawaii with 330 slips. Fisherman's Village is aligned with the city in it's goal to make Punta Gorda a desireable boating destination.

After Hurricane Charley ravaged Fisherman's Village it's was transformed to include new fixed concrete docks and dock equipment, a 112 foot fuel dock, a fire suppession system and a 120 foot T-dock for large vessels. The underground fuel system was replaced with a state of the art facility that can automatically detect leaks.

At the award ceremony in Fort lauderdale, the magazine emphsized the marina's customer service. "Open to the public" the Yacht Basin has more than 1.5 million visitors every year that return to it's 145 slips, available daily, weekly, monthly or long term. Customers have access to showers, laundry, sewage pump out station at the fuel dock, an air conditioned boater's day room, a ship's store, a heated pool and tennis courts.
