Yesterday I wrote that I was going to be at the auto service shop early today. At 7:30 this morning I headed down to my mechanic's place, Schlenker's Auto Service, in Rockledge, Florida.
[Amazing how we take personal ownership of my (doctor, lawyer, mechanic, Realtor,) when we have developed a comfortable relationship over time.]
While sitting in the lounge area sipping my Dunkin' Donuts coffee I overheard a call to a customer. Apparently the customer's car needed a new transmission. A rebuilt transmission would be about $1300 dollars. Then I heard a follow up comment about another guy who had to pay several thousand for his transmission replacement yesterday.
A couple of thoughts entered my mind. First, not bad - only $1,300. Then, of course, could preventive maintenance have precluded this problem?
However, my $247.07 bill for preventive maintenance was much more palatable!
In life, many times it is all about putting your circumstances in their proper perspective. And then, many times, it is all about preventive maintenance. Let's see..dental exam, physical exam, exercise, non-smoking, immunizations, AC service, pest control, oil change, ....

Thanks, Sally. Grab them awards..I am sure your name is on a few!
Preventive maintenance. I love it. Two years ago, we had water coming into our basement after a heavy rainfall. After exploring all our options, my wife suggested that I put some earth up against the house sloping AWAY at the area where we thought was the problem spot. Sure enough, $8 worth of top soil solved the problem. That's two years ago, No more water problem. Preventive maintenance. I love it.
Ken - Thanks. Guess the water damage would have cost a lot more! Sometimes we just have to acknowledge it will be dealt with now or later!
