St. Petersburg Information
I love St. Pete (the locals shorten the name)! This is, in my opinion, one of the best places to live. Tampa Bay has professional sports (football, hockey and baseball), theater, world class museums, symphony, outstanding hospitals, two universities and numerous colleges, white sandy beaches (frequently named as the best beaches in the world), an international airport, multiple waterfront parks, upscale shopping, fine restaurants and wonderful weather. Its no wonder why this little city has grown so dramatically with all these features. Since St. Pete is a peninsula, we enjoy off shore breezes on both sides of the city. Housing opportunities vary from charming, historic homes to contemporary to townhomes to high rise condominiums. Among the numerous options are waterfront, golf course frontage and gated communities.
Nicknamed "The Sunshine City", St Petersburg is nestled on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It has a population of about 248,000 people and is the fourth largest city in Florida. St Petersburg was incorporated on February 29, 1892 when it had a population of 300 people. The city was co-founded by John C. Williams and by Peter Demens and named after St Petersburg, Russia, the former home of Peter Demens. In 1914 Tony Jannus piloted the first commercial airplane service across Tampa Bay from St Petersburg to Tampa. Click here for more information and photos of St Petersburg.
