Incorporated in 1927 South Miami is approximately three square miles making South Miami one of the oldest municipalities. Fun Fact - In 1933 South Miami's total area was reduced from it's original six square miles to just three sqaure miles. In 1937 the city's size was again reduced. These actions created most of the irregular boundaries that still characterize South Miami today.
