It's been two years since I had a vacation, and in August I called my then 86-year young aunt who LOVES to travel and said "let's plan a trip." Now this really means - "will you plan a trip, and I'll drive..." which works for me since I don't have the time or patience to put it together - and she does!
So here we are in Commerce, GA, 300 miles north of where we started this morning, heading to the mountains of North Carolina to check out the changing colors of the leaves (highly recommend by JaneAnne).
As we left Florida and crossed into Georgia this morning several things occurred to me:
So, I will report in each night during the 8 days I'm on the road with the real estate observations of the day, interesting sites, good eats, etc. At the end of this self - assignment, we may actually be able to make some assessments - who knows!
Day 1: Tallahassee, FL to Commerce, GA - by way of US 19 and 441, 90% of the 320 miles.
What was almost immediately noticeable and remained so was the vastly fewer number of properties for sale along any part of the route we drove in Georgia as compared to anywhere in Florida. We drove for miles without seeing ANY real estate sign of any kind - even for lease ! It was so noticeable my aunt mentioned it to me without me bringing it up...
Also- the traffic was amazingly light the entire trip up ... except for a 5 mile stretch of !-75 that was under construction. And most of what we travelled on was two lane.
If you LOVE BBQ, we found an outstanding BBQ restaurant: Old Clinton's, 2 miles south of the Town of Gray on Hwy 129. People were pouring in and out of there. Service was quick and they had a great sauce!
More Tomorrow!

EVA: Very interesting concept, paricularly the part about taking note of the amount of real estate signs in the yards. Looking forward to the rest of the journey.
Bring back some BBQ with you Eva. I'm ready for some right now, and it's early in the a.m....
Eva, stop by one of those little stores and pick up one of those disposable cameras, you never know when you might see something to share with us....it is better to have a disposable camera and not need it then to need a camera and not have one, have fun, enjoy yourself...have a great time...i sure would like to see those tree colors...hint,hint,hint

Adam- I'm not the expert in tends that you and Joe M. are - but the difference in activity is astounding - and noticeable just in the signage---then you start noticing other aspects of human behavior related to lands, develpment and people movement Fla v. GA V. SW N. Carolina--- more on that later.... Thanks for writing..
