If just one life is saved…its all worthwhile!

I don't talk much about my family but this is one story I would like to share. My middle daughter, Alexandra, is gradutaing from high school this spring. I know, everyone graduates from high school, right? No big deal except in this case, it is maybe a slightly big deal.

Allee had to have unexpected open-heart surgery last summer for a birth defect that very quickly became life threatening pretty much overnight. The surgery was done and she is fine, more than fine, actually. Of course, she is my pride and joy, gradutaing at the top of her class (#22 out of 700), all AP honors classes, and a very hard worker. She hopes to continue her studies at Emory University.

This story is about saving a child's life in a different way. We have formed a committee at Palm Beach Central High School, Wellington FL called Project Graduation.

Project Graduation is a substance-free party given by the entire community for the “Class of 2010” to safely celebrate their first night as graduates. This all-night celebration keeps our students off the roads on graduation night-an evening notoriously dangerous for our kids to be in cars with their friends.

We are inviting the community to help, doing a TON of fundraising, because we want it to be FREE for the students so all will attend! We will keep them entertained all night (yawn....) with games and activities, and basically keep them off the road and out of harm's way for one night. It has been a huge success in recent years!

I wasn't sure if any other schools were doing this or something like it but wanted to get it out there-its a great way to help celebrate your child's graduation!
