Three Songs We Love to Hate... Can You Help Make it Five?

We all have them... those moments - or days - even weeks - when you just can't get a certain song out of your head. More often than not, it's a song that ranks among the worst you've ever heard. Not sure why this is, but it's like the Devil got up before you did, snuck into your room, and Super Glued (TM) his own special version of the Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones onto your noggin! Here are three songs I never EVER want to hear again - in no specific order. Let's see if you agree...

Submission Number 1: MmmBop! - by Hanson

I know they're all grown up, and I should be able to get past the memories of this blasted song being overplayed first in London (I lived there during the summer of 1996) and then when I returned home to the US. Honestly, the song isn't bad, and the brothers actually have talent. However, too much of even a great thing (and the song was never "great" in my book) goes WAY too far! The first too bars... come on... you know 'em even if you don't think you do "MMMbop tick a ta ba do ba"... they're like mental flypaper! Or an electric nail gun. But definitely one of the two. Ahhhhh!

Submission Number 2: Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) - by Various Artists

This song seems to surface every now and again. When it does - it tends to make an entrance! The last time I remember it being re-introduced into the Pop Culture Collective was as a feature scene in the movie Beetlejuice - you know - during the dinner scene? Oh yeah. I laughed so hard, I think I peed just a little. However, the song lingered on... and remained the same! (And not in the cool Led Zeppelin sort of way!) The Beetlejuice Version of Day-O can be found below. WARNING: It's going to have you singing this darned song for a while. But the laughs should be worth it!

Submission Number 3: Don't Worry, Be Happy! - by Bobby McFerrin

Another "Please, for the Love of All Things Sacred... MAKE IT STOP!" tune. Like the two listed above, this song just loves to stick to your brain like so much Spackle or Paste! The whistled or "oohd" part of this little ditty is the section that really stays with you, but man - does it ever stay with you! Add to this the fact that there are times - especially when you've had it up to your neck - that the last thing you want to hear someone say is "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" (insert Candide reference here - for all you Humanities buffs).
