Santa Claus Lights Up Blue Ridge ! (Edited)

Saturday, November 24 was "Light Up Blue Ridge" which officially kicked off the Christmas season for our town. This annual event started a few years ago and is becoming a mountain tradition, drawing more and more visitors each year to the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. This year's celebration drew more than 7000 visitors! It was a beautiful sunny day but on the cold side.

I was so thankful to get to enjoy this event with my family for the first time this year. My grandchildren had a blast and to see their faces when they saw Santa and Mrs. Claus ride into town on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad gave me a thrill I will never forget.

Then Santa and Mrs. Claus and his reindeer trotted around town for everyone to see. He spent all the time needed to be sure to see each and every child who wanted to sit on his lap and reveal their Christmas wishes. This is such a fun, family event with great food and plenty of good ole' southern hospitality to go around.

Donna,

It looks like alot of fun! That's always a great event for families to attend when there is Christmas and Santa involved.

Jessica:  Thank you very much for your comment and I did not know it had been featured.  That's a nice surprise.

Dave:  I havent' been to an event like this is years and it took me back to my own childhood.  I was so happy to get to share it with my grandchildren this year and see the excitement in their faces.  Events like this seem to bring out the best in everyone.  Thank you for your comment.

Hi Donna,

I love the picture for the holidays! I spent Christmas in the mountains once and it was the best Christmas I've ever had.  It even snowed.  It looks like Christmas in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia would be wonderful too.

Donna, Congratulations on your beautiful post!  I love to see pictures, sometimes I almost feel as if I am there!

Tracy:  I love Christmas in the mountains too.  Coming back into Blue Ridge after Thanksgiving Day, there was snow on the top of the mountains.  It just puts you in the spirit of things.  I love the mountains because of their distinct seasons and winters that are not too harsh.  Nothing like living your childhood over through grandchildren!

Carole:  Maybe we should for a group and all switch places with each other for a few days.  Wouldn' that be fun if we could?!  Then we could experience one another's market areas but it's nice to have the blogs so we can feel like we've been there.  Thank you always.

Andrew:  Thank you for your comment.  This event was a great way to get into the spirit.

Donna, Love your new Christmas picture Merry Christmas and God Bless you

Hugh:  Thank you for your comment.  I've been off my normal routine with Active Rain so  I haven't gotten around to everyone like I would like but I'm trying to get back on track.  Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hi Donna,

Very nice localism info.  Is that your precious grandaughter?  Very sweet.  Love the horses!

Lisa and Robert:  Thank you for your comment.  We had a lot of fun at Light Up Blue Ridge and it was a beautiful day.  That is my granddaughter and my grandson with Santa.  My granddaughter was starting to dance to the band that was playing.  Merry Christmas to you both.

I love the smaller parades that seem more community oriented than the larger ones we see on the TV around this time every year. Glad you and your family got to enjoy it!

Todd:  The small town parades do give such a personal feel and it's great fun to run into neighbors experience the friendliness that comes with the small town.  I remember going to a mountain town parade for July 4th when growing up and it is some of the best memories I have.  Thank you for you comment.  Merry Christmas.

Nice post, looks like a lot of fun! Love the kid pics, so darn cute!

Merry Christmas!

Vanessa:  I wish everyone could come to Light Up Blue Ridge.  If you like that small town, old fashioned Christmas feeling, this is the event to see.  The children are my precious grandchildren!  Thank you for your comment.  Merry Christmas.
