Lake Lanier is celebrating it's 50 Birthday. 1957 was the date Lake Lanier became our favorite spot to fish and boat. Here are some of the celebration plans for our lake.

• The Us Army Corps of Engineers is offering a tour of the Buford Dam Powerhouse as part of the celebration. During 50 days of summer from June 15 until August 11th, lake vistors can display a "Wear It and Win" buton that will qualify them for prizes donated by area business.
• 50 Years of Lake Lanier Photo Contest....Lakeside News
• June 14th Lake Lanier Assoc. annual meeting with Brigadier General Joseph Schroedel, commander of the South Atlantic Division, US Army Corps of Engineers as guest speaker.
• -June 15 through August 11th "Wear It and Win" prize giveaways including a pair of Sea-Doos.
• August 11th National Marina Day with all lake marinas hosting special events such as Classic Boat Show:
• September 29th - Lake Lanier Assoc. Shore Sweep
• October 6th - Dam run 5K Fun run- Buford Dam
• October 19th ...9th Annual Holiday Marina Golf Classic to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Hall County.
• Nov. 18th - Lanier Cup Invitational Sailing Championship - University Yacht Club.
• December 1st .... Boat Parade of Lights.

7/28/07:There will be more park rangers patrolling Lake Lanier. They will help promote water safety. Promoting water safety is through one on one contact. Water safety tips for Boaters: Wear a life jacket on the boat. Don't become inebriated while boating. Don't boat solo. Use your running lights from dusk till dawn when on Lake Lanier. Alert somone on shore where you plan to boat and how long. Check the weather before you go boating. Follow the rules of the lake when on the water. Learn to swim.

7/9/07: We now have a new commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District, which includes Lake Lanier. Col. Bryon G. Jorns.7/4/07: Lake Lanier has wonderful fireworks on the Lake each year. This is also the 50th anniversary celebration and should be more spectacular than usual. Sking and fishing are enjoyed this time of season. Don't miss out.
