When things go wrong, sometimes they REALLY go wrong. Poor decision making cost me today!

1990 Miata by Richard WeisserMost of our biggest problems occur after a series of errors. It's usually not one mistake that wreaks havoc, but a combination of careless decisions that can lead to a lot of inconvenience.

Since my birthday is this week, I had to make the annual pilgrimage to the Coweta County Tax Assessor to pay the tax on my cars and get my new decals.

Because it was a beautiful morning, I decided to take my 1990 Miata. That was the first mistake.

Since it is an open convertible, I decided to lock my briefcase, computer and camera in the trunk so I could go straight to the tag office without going by the real estate office first. That was mistake number two.

After securing the trunk hatch, I realized that I did not have my keys. Could I have locked them in the trunk? Oh, where is my extra set of keys? I keep them in my briefcase which was now locked in the trunk. That was mistake number three!

No problem. I'm an ingenious guy, I can figure out how to get in a trunk. So I spent two hours in the heat prying, pushing and pulling until I strained a muscle and nearly collapsed from heat exhaustion. That was mistake number four.

Red 1990 Miata by Richard WeisserI went upstairs to use my home computer to work on some documents that I had to get out. I was prompted to upgrade my software. I said "yes." The system froze. That was mistake number five!

I called a locksmith who said that he could make it to the house by 5.P.M. I agreed. So I tried to get by all day with workarounds and make-dos and I actually made it until the locksmith came and opened the trunk.

No only had I locked the keys in the trunk, I had actually placed them inside my briefcase before doing so. It was a stupid move that cost me a day of work and the locksmith's fee.

But the next time someone else makes a mistake or two that may negatively affect me; I will be more patient and tolerant.

After all, it could happen to anybody!

Don't you hate days like that?  As you said at the end, it could happen to anybody.  'Sounds like you were lucky not to have any client appointments today, with your keys and computer locked in the trunk.

Richard - I hate stubbing my toe. But when I'm dancing after the first smack and the other toe is stubbed.. it makes me human bean

I've been missing a set of keys for a week.  The only place I haven't looked is in the potted tomato plant.  I have a sneaky suspcion that is where they ended up but who wants to admit they planted their keys :-)  Hopefully tomorrow will be less stressful for you!

Richard it sounds like you made lemonade out of you lemon type of day though.  You made do and you worked around it!  Here's to a Wonderful albeit wordless Wednesday!

Margaret...

Indeed I was ... if I did, I would have had to drive my wife to work and used her car! Thanks for the comment!

Claude...

Indeed it does. Thanks my friend!

Cindy...

You'll know for sure if a "key lime" tree grows in the pot! lol and thanks.

I thought you were more of a Corvette kind of guy.

I used to drive a Miata and I did not like it.

Richard, Oh ! what a day! Things like that hapeened to me and I should say happened several times. Take some rest now.

Richard...The silver lining..these stories always have a silver lining!  Now don't hold out on us!

Richard - When it rains, it pours... But alas the sun will come out tomorrow - or so the song goes.

Richard, love the car, are you happy with it?  I am considering getting one.

I've had several days like that over the years and what I do is just pretend it's Sunday and take the day off. That is after it's happend so many times.Hope your next week is better.

Richard,

So did you make it to the tag office or do you have to back? Happy Birthday! :)

Steve

Al...

I am looking forward to a fresh day! Thanks for the comment.

Angela...

No, I'm pretty cheap. I picked up this 1990 car with a lot of miles on it, but it's fun for evening rides around Coweta County. It's good on gas and insurance is next to nothing. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!

Suma...

Thanks! I need to relax a bit, but I like commenting on AR too much!!!

Some days are just like this but at least you came out of it with a positive attitude.

Life is like a box of chocolates and I feel like a nut.

Oh Richard!!!  That sounds like one of my days lately!  I locked my keys in my car once at CVS while the car was running and didn't realize it until I was paying at the counter and couldn't find my keys!  Since I am hearing impaired, I had to put my ear to the car when I got out to see if it was running!  Some man got a big kick out of this and told me he'd never seen that combination before... locked and running.  I told him that was funny since it wasn't the first time I'd done it!!  Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day and that your birthday is wonderful... what day is it, by the way?

Oh Richard!

What is that Murphy's Law adage "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong?"

It's so frustrating when the events of a day keep snowballing like they did for you today.  You deserve a gold star just for the patience you showed in light of what you had to endure today.

Bill...

I'll tell you after a good night's sleep! THX

Ryan...

I know tomorrow will be a better day! I got a new listing over the phone just now! Thanks.

Christine...

I love it! It's nearly 20 tears old but it is a ton of fun to drive! Thanks for asking.

( 06/23/09 09:03PM ) — Andrea Swiedler

Richard, oh, I don't like those kind of days, and it like a snowball at the top of the hill rolling down and down smashing everything in it's path, LOL.

I feel for ya, but you seemed to have made a great day of it anyway.

Love the car, I can see you in it!

Spencer...

I still have plenty to do ... UI have closings this week! Thanks for the comment!

Steve...

My wife was able to save the day before heading off to work! Thanks.

Cameron...

I do the best I can my friend. Are you still as busy as ever?

Hello Susan...

It is Thursday and my office is celebrating with a big open house and has invited EVERYONE in real estate in the area! Actually, it's a coincidence but it's still fun! And at least my car wasn't running! lol and thanks.

Donna,,,

That's for sure ... today Mr. Murphy was determined! THX.

Andrea...

I picked it up for a song. Hopefully, it has another 60,000 miles left in it! Thanks, as always.

Oh dear, oh dear.  and here I've been whining because our air conditioner went on the blitz Sunday night.  It was repaired by 7 last night, but I haven't recovered from the heat yet.  Now I feel better.
Your day was much worse.  I was just cranky all day.

Okeey dokey birthday?  Did I hear someone say birthday? Happy Birthday!  *tosses confetti and a new set of keys to plant in Cindy's tomatos*

Now you'll both have a spare!

( 06/23/09 09:22PM ) — Carol Smith

I feel your pain!  I think we have all had a day or two in our lives when things went awry consistently, at every turn, no matter what we did.  I'm just glad it all worked out for you and there was no real loss ... other than a few hours.

BTW - HAPPY BIRTHDAY (sometime this week!)

Hey Richard,

Now that's a BAD day! Glad to hear things perked up with the new listing.

My birthday is June 28, when is yours?

( 06/23/09 09:39PM ) — William German

Talking about waking up on the wrong side of the bed!  You handle it well. Just remember when you think that the worst could happen to you someone else has one better than that.

Someone once said that bad things happen in three's and if a fourth happens it is not a fourth it is just the start of another three events so by my count you have one more coming. Be careful.

Get some rest and may tomorrow be better -- all the best.

I locked my keys in the car yesterday and normally I yell at my kids for leaving their windows down or the back hatch on the Jeep unlocked... Well, not yesterday, I was very happy to find it unlocked! I'm glad you at least got some stuff around the house done that clearly needed to be done.

Richard. I guess that we all have days where it does not pay to get out of bed. Looks like you had one of those. I hope that today goes better...

Sounds like the perfect day to write a blog about! Thanks for sharing a day that we can all relate. Mistakes make really good posts...and you proved it.

Oh My!  Time for me to pull out Mama said there'ld be days like this But you really had a bulldozer running you over on this one.  Sometimes as we try to slove one problem we create more for ourselves as you have proven.  Today will be better my friend!

Wow, now that is a day! Kudos to you, though, for handling it with aplomb (unless you are leaving out part of the story) and turning it into a great post.  And Happy Birthday this week!  Hope it's a happy one.

( 06/24/09 07:55AM ) — Irene Kennedy Sussex County NJ Realtor®

Undoubtedly, Richard, the rest of your week will seem to be a bed of roses. Well, that at least is my birthday wish for you...

I don't do this sort of thing all that often, but when I do, it's always at the worst time possible.
